Training session for Commanders and Adjutants

What: Southern Area Commander and Adjutant Training. During this class Commanders and Adjutants will be trained on the duties of their office. They will learn what is expected of them as a Post Commander and/or Adjutant from their fellow Post members, the local community, their District and Department and from our National Headquarters. Legionnaires expecting to hold office for 2023-24 should attend this training, but any Legionnaire can attend.
When: June 24. Classes will begin promptly at 8 am and end approximately at 5 pm.
Where: Camp Shelby, 1001 Lee Ave, Camp Shelby, MS
Cost: $25 per person to cover materials, lunch, water, and snacks for the day. The Post will cover the cost for Post 1995 attendees.
Prerequisites: Here are the things you will need to accomplish before attending the class and things you will need to bring with you.
- Your 2023 or 2024 or PUFL membership card.
- Complete the American Legion Basic Training Course on line at legion.org (in the search bar type in basic training program). Bring a copy of graduation certificate as proof of completion. Completion date should NOT be older than December 1, 2022. If it is than you should take it again.
- A pen and note pad for taking notes.
- A three ring binder with 12 tabbed dividers for the Commander
- A three ring binder with 24 tabbed dividers for the Adjutant. At least six pocket dividers.
- Your copy of the Officers Guide Book and Manual of Ceremonies and The Adjutant’s Manual.
- *A copy of your 2023 Consolidated Post Report.
- *A copy of your Post Constitution and By-Laws. A copy of the minutes accepting this Post Constitution and By-Laws.
- *Your Post Calendar.
- *A copy of your bond insurance on your officers.
- *A copy of the previous month’s minutes.
- *A copy of your Posts EIN and tax exemption information. (See page 6 of the Adjutant’s Manual)
- *If your Post operates a bar/canteen bring a copy of your business license, insurance, employee manual and a copy of your Post Certificate of Attendance at the 2022 Legion training.
- *A copy of your Post Officers and their individual contact information.
- A large clasp envelope to place items in.
*DO NOT BRING ORIGINALS!
Uniform of the Day: Short sleeve white shirts, grey slacks and appropriate footwear. Your American Legion cover. Your name tag if you hold office. Class pictures will be taken.
