About Us

The American Legion Riders was established in 1993 as a Post level activity at Garden City American Post 396 in Michigan. The Legion Riders program was established first in Maryland at Edwin Adams Post 293 in Waldorf, Maryland. The program took root and spread to various other Posts across Maryland. In 2007, the National Executive Committee approved Resolution 35 establishing the Legion Riders as a national program to be administered by Departments and Posts.

The American Legion Rider’s program currently exist at Posts that span across at least 48 States with more than 700 members nationally. During the 2017-2018 year, the Riders raised more than $2,527,730.43 for The American Legacy Scholarship nationally while at the local level contributions were valued at more than $75,000 in contributions or volunteer hours supporting the American Legion.

Membership

Members must hold membership in and be in good standing with The American Legion, American Legion Auxiliary or Sons of The American Legion.

Members must be legally registered motorcycle owners or be the legally registered owner’s spouse within the state of registration.

All operators must be properly licensed and insured per state laws.

All members must obey motor-vehicle laws in the state in which they are operating a motorcycle or riding as a passenger
