When a United States flag becomes worn, torn, faded or badly soiled, it is time to replace it with a new flag, and the old flag should be “retired” with all the dignity and respect befitting our nation’s flag. The traditional method of retirement is to incinerate the flag.

Long Beach Boys Scout Troop 321, under the leadership of Scoutmaster Tommie Carroll, performed this dignified ceremony on the beach on Tuesday evening, June 13. Members of the troop, veterans, and the public participated in the retirement of a number of flags.
